A great hike on a warm day. We left SEHS parking lot a little after 8:00 a.m.
and were on the trail by 10:30. Since most of the ascent is through the forest
it didn’t seem too hot. This was the first time to Black Crater for five
of our group: We only had one patch of snow on the trail, close to the top.
On the ascent we met Obsidian Peggy Lee Mathes and her husband coming down
from the top. We had lunch at the top and enjoyed views of the
Three Sisters and Broken Top as well as other major peaks.
We returned to the trailhead by 3:00. After a short water break and
checking to be sure we had all hikers, we departed for Eugene.
Hikers were Chris Christensen, Ellen Lembach, David Poppel, Rosemarie Smith,
Benette Rauch and Sandra Larsen, leader.
