Lawler TrailJuly 15, 2000If you have a yearning for a close-at-hand hike with spectacular views of the Three Sisters, Broken Top, Diamond Peak, Mts. Yoran, Thielsen, Cowhorn, June, Hardesty, Eagle’s Rest and Pisgah and aerial views of Lookout Reservoir, then hike the Lawler Trail. Seven of us left Springfield on a beautiful sunny morning to drive the 30 miles to the trailhead, off Patterson Mountain Road. We had a wonderful hike through stately Douglas fir, passed great rock outcroppings, and many open areas. There were many varieties of wildflowers, butterflies and birds along the way. We ended up at the Lone Wolf Shelter for lunch. The out and back trip was 12 miles and approximately 2600 ft. elevation gain; the trail connections were not always clear but for the most part the trail was in good condition. It was a great day. Non-members were Carlos Cartlidge, Brook Hardy, Karen & Lucy Rayle and Robert VanIderstine. Thanks to Dave Becker for providing the caboose for leader Gerry Roe. All non-members were given an overview of the Club and an application to join. |
