Substitute Point

Six Obsidians and five non-members met around 8:00 a.m. at the LTD Park & Ride near Albertsons in Springfield on a wonderfully clear Wednesday. We began hiking by 10:10 from the Foley Ridge trailhead. We found plenty of mosquitoes and packed snow on the upper trail. A solo woman hiker and her dog had turned back in despair of finding her way in the snow. Our spirits, however, never wavered as we forged on to find Substitute Point with no problems. After a 50-minute respite for lunch, sunning, picture taking, and Cascade Peaks ogling, we had plenty of energy for the two-hour hike out. Arriving safely but tired in Springfield by 5:15 were Obsidians Dave Strutin, Elliot Aronin, Steve Johnson, Pat Adams, Maggie Gontrum and hike leader Peggy Lee Mathes; non-member hikers were Karen Rayle, Kim Woodard, Tamara & Ellen Johnson and Lois Weinfeld.
