Heceta Head/Hobbit TrailJune 25, 2000With a 90-degree day projected for Eugene, our expectations for the coast were fulfilled. Blue skies and cool breezes (in the a.m., wind later!). The woods at China Creek were lovely, the trail to Heceta Head was beautiful with the sun filtering through the old growth stands, views of the ocean and cliffs. After a most interesting tour of the lighthouse and a leisurely lunch, we went back over the mountain and down the Hobbit Trail for a hike up the coast. Unfortunately, the winds had strengthened, so we turned in at the Washburne day use area and crossed the highway to the cars. After a much-anticipated stop at B.J.s for ice-cream, we arrived home by 5:00 p.m. My fellow travelers were non-member Amber Remillard and Obsidians Corrine Hunt, Bob Huntley, Benette Rauch, Barbara Schomaker and Michelle Tambellini. Leader: Sharon Ritchie. |
