Iron MountainJune 24, 2000A hearty group set out to hike up to Iron Mountain lookout. We began the hike with a side trip to see the tombstone. From there we hiked through an area boasting more types of trees than any other area in Oregon and on to the glorious wildflower display on the rocky meadows of Cone Peak. After lunching on a ridge with a view, we hiked to Iron Mountain lookout through a show of wild flowers. We hiked down Iron Mountain, across the highway and followed an old wagon road part way back to the cars. While the flowers were wondrous, they should be even more beautiful in another week or two. On this hike were Obsidians Dan Bates, Sandra Larsen, Benton Elliott, Max Brown, Marriner Orum, Daniele Delaby, Jan Wright, Mel Zavodsky and Janet Hall (trip leader), and nonmembers Jim Zajac, Robin Bundy and Chris Christensen. |
