Eel Creek/Umpqua Dunes
June 10, 2000
This was the “no fee” day for the parks but we were covered
with trail passes anyway. After an 8:30 departure from
Eugene we were on the trail by 10:40 under cloudy skies.
The trail was in excellent condition from the start to the dunes.
Upon reaching the Deflation Plain the leader temporarily lost
track of the fourth marker which led to the beach.
After discussion among several who had been on the same
trip previously, we retraced our steps and Bob found the elusive marker.
By the time we reached the beach it was raining,
so back to shelter under the trees for a lunch break.
After lunch we walked 2.5 miles down the beach to Tenmile Creek.
We had rain, wind and then sunshine to complete our hike.
A good day of hiking for Max Brown, Danielle Delaby, Yuan Hopkins,
Bob Huntley, Ed Lichtenstein, Barbara Schomaker, Sheila Ward,
Jan Wright (all Obsidians) and Sandra Larsen, leader.
