McKenzie River TrailMay 28, 2000To the leader’s surprise, 17 hikers assembled at 9:00 a.m. on this holiday Sunday. We parked at Sahalie Falls (no trail permit required). The weather was good for hiking: Cool, partly cloudy. We went east up the “Falls Loop” but then continued east, crossing the highway and going as far up as Clear Lake; getting a view of the lake and the river flowing out of it at the lake’s west tip. We retraced our path back to the Falls Loop Trail, crossed the river and did the rest of the Falls Loop Trail. Good views of Sahalie and Koosah Falls from both sides of the river. May is a great time for this hike because there is a great deal of water coursing through the falls and rapids, and unlike last year we encountered no snow on the trail. Enjoying the white water views were non-members Jan Wright, Melvina Bartels and Keith Christenson and Obsidians Yuan Hopkins, Sheila Ward, Lucille Peterson, Helen Liguori, Max Brown, Daniele Delaby, Michelle Tambellini, Nicole Chase, Maggie Gontrum, Sandra Larsen, Mel Zavodsky, Liz DeShetler, Corinne Hunt and Ed Lichtenstein (leader). |
