Brice CreekMay 14, 2000Five women decided to celebrate Mother's Day with Mother Earth. As for place, when only two people signed up for the other trip scheduled, those two decided “the Brice is Right”, so we all headed off for Brice Creek. It was an excellent decision. The overcast morning brought the lush growth of the old growth forest out in more shades of green than one can imagine, and also attracted one of Benette’s favorite critters, the salamanders with the orange bellies, to the trail in large numbers. Full sunshine broke out just in time for lunch, which was a somewhat non-social affair thanks to the thundering cascades we admired while soaking up the sun. After a side trip to take in Trestle Creek Falls we headed back for a return walk that included a brief lesson in gold mining from a friendly miner. The mild shower that began just after we got in the car to drive home capped a glorious Mother’s Day for Benette Rauch, Lucy Rayle, Anne Dhu McLucas, Margy Riggs and Sue Wolling (leader). |
