Drift CreekApril 8, 2000It was a very good day for a great hike. Although there were only the two of us, we still wanted to do the trip. The plan was to go by way of the Alsea Hwy. to the Harris Ranch trailhead. Turning on Rd. 3446 off the Alsea Hwy. the trailhead which had been on Rd. 346 has been moved back up to Rd. 3446, making the round trip hike from 5 miles to 7. It was a pleasant trip down to the river, climbing over and under trees; the river was wonderful. We decided to continue traveling out the 3446 road and check on the South Horse Creek trailhead, and found it, too, had been moved from Rd. 3454 to 3446. This also will add 4 to 5 miles to the otherwise 4.5 miles round trip. On the way back to town we decided to take the Alsea Falls Hwy. out of the town of Alsea. We stopped at the Herbert K. McBee Memorial Park, checked out the Green Peak Trail (something to explore at a later date), stopped at Alsea Falls (what a beauty!) and drove back to town. Hikers were Wally Adrience and Becky Hansen, leader. |
