Diamond Peak

Inclement weather delayed this climb four weeks, but at long last high pressure formed and seven of us initialized the year 2000 climbing season. We parked right at the trailhead and using waypoints stored from previous Diamond climbs, we GPS’ed our way toward the SW Ridge. However, the leader wanted to optimize the route northward a bit but instead dropped into the snow bowl at the base of the summit. No problem! Kathy, Chris and Van just zigzagged their way on skis to the summit while Anne, Mike, Jan and I kicked steps vertically to the top. Gusty winds greeted all at the summit so only a quick stay. We dropped to the saddle below for lunch then skied or glissaded our way back down the SW Ridge. Using those previous waypoints, we arrived back to our original tracks and to the car. Climbing were Anne McLucas, Mike Landes, Van Likes, Chris & Kathy Jensen and Jan & Rich Anselmo (leader).
