Salt Creek Falls
December 10, 1999
Salt Creek Falls loop replaced Bechtel Shelter snowshoe trip.
Our group of ten left from East Springfield.
The weather was cool with light rain that turned to snow near the Hwy. 58 tunnel].
We altered our destination because of the low snow accumulation
and arrived at Salt Creek Falls to find a beautiful winter wonderland of glistening snow,
perfect for snowshoeing.
Elliot Aronin led us across the bridge and up the mountainside.
The group took turns breaking trail in the virgin snow.
Diamond Creek Falls was a lovely sight, with the water cascading over the many jutting rocks.
Below the falls we stopped for lunch, clearing the snow from the logs.
The final stop was the magnificent view of Salt Creek Falls. Jim Clarkson
showed the group an optical illusion with the falling water … amazing!
We were back to the cars in three hours, we were tired,
but all agreed it was a great day to be snowshoeing in the beautiful Cascades.
Thanks to Elliot for all the valuable information he shared and for co-leading this outing.
Thanks to all of you who contributed to a great trip.
Snowshoers were Elliot Aronin, Jim & Melody Clarkson, Peggy Lee Mathes, Effie Neth,
Lucy Rayle, Joe Scheibe, Jim Whitfield and Gerry Roe, leader.
