March 27, 1999
Ten inches of fresh snow created anticipation for a great downhill run off the summit
of Maiden Peak.
The same ten inches made for a tough job of trail breaking to reach the summit.
But strong skiers with a good dose of summit fever put our group on top at 2:00 p.m.
after an 8:00 a.m. start from Willamette Pass.
The climb up was well worth the ski down, often with our skis out of sight under the
thick blanket of frozen fluff.
The car was reached at 6:00 and four tired skiers returned to Eugene after a much
anticipated stop at the Dairy Queen in Oakridge.
Skiers on this snowy day were Doug McCarty, Steve Goins, John Pegg and Harold Thompson (leader).
