The North Loop/Two Buttes cutoff trip (one of my favorites) had to be canceled on word that
the blue diamonds are under two feet of snow!
But there were skiers out there who didn’t mind the change to Maklaks Loop
— actually a first-time ski for some of the group.
The day before had brought a freezing level of 6500 ft., 45° day and rain showers, so we
were prepared for wet conditions (one of our group was sporting vintage World War 11 navy foul
Fortunately, the rain stayed west of the Pass, and we skied in partial sun most of the trip.
The snow was classic Cascadian mush, but we had a good ski — and a good workout for some
members who were trying out their ski legs for the first time this year.
Carol Armstrong, Elliot Aronin, Mary Croson, Sat Nam Khedsee, Damien Lukton, Ellie Maliner,
Bill Prentice, Lois Weinfeld and leader Clare Tucker made up this very congenial group of
Sunday “Be-Prepared-for-Anything” skiers.
