Newberry Crater/Paulina LakeFebruary 14, 1999The annual Newberry pilgrimage got off to a reasonably prompt start at 7:05 am from the SEHS parking lot. Two no-shows including one who said he could drive and take three passengers! At the summit of the Cascades, we were met with brilliant sunshine which stayed with us more or less all day. The snow was great, skiing was fine, except that one of the leaders was very slow due to some pig parts having been spliced into his heart a couple of years ago — pigs don’t like uphill! To celebrate finally arriving at the Paulina Lake Lodge, all skiers were treated to [previously arranged for] fresh homemade hot peach cobbler. A brief visit to the waterfalls, and a great run out! The reasonably happy dozen included Jane Hackett, Janet Hall, Carol Houde, Chuck Mitchell, Robert Moffitt, Royal Murdock, Marriner Orum, Kathryn Reid, Sharon Ritchie, Clare Tucker and leaders Bea Fontana and Gene Thaxton. |
