Fuji Mountain Shelter
January 23, 1999
This trip was originally scheduled for Odell Butte; however, there is no SnoPark at Odell Butte,
and with copious new snowfall, the trip destination was changed to Fuji Mountain Shelter.
It turned out to be an ideal day for a ski to Fuji Shelter.
With about three feet of new snow at the Salt Creek SnoPark, and eight hardy souls to share
trail breaking, conditions were perfect!
We followed the logging road up a gentle grade to the shelter, pausing now and again to enjoy
the sun breaking through the clouds or to switch off trail breaking duties.
Two folks decided to have a lunch break before the shelter and turn around early;
the rest of the group reached the shelter, enjoyed a small fire, and watched as
Joseph Koler broke out a propane stove and made hot drinks!
The ski down was mostly a floating coast on gentle grades, passing a few uphill skiers who
appreciated our earlier trail-breaking efforts.
In addition to Joseph, the group included Helen Liguori, San Bates, Peggy Mathes, George Baitinger,
Mari Baldwin, David Becker and leader Susan Baker.
