January 16, 1999
Eight participants, riding in three cars, left the SEHS parking lot at 8:00 am.
The light rain that was falling turned into a dry snow just as we passed the RR trestle on Hwy. 58.
When we arrived at the Gold Lake SnoPark area at Willamette Pass the temperature was 30°
and still snowing.
We crossed the highway and found that we would be the first ones on the trail that day.
The new layer of snow was at just the right depth and each person who broke trail found it to be easy.
After less than an hour we were at the Gold Lake Shelter.
One member of the group started back up the road, and the others skied around to the back side of
the lake to view the bog located there.
After we returned to the shelter another member of our group opted to return via the road while
the rest of the group went past Upper Marilyn Lakes Loop.
By 2:30 pm we were all back at the Nordic Base and on our way home to Eugene.
Skiers were Cathy Edward, John Zigler, Heather Blanchette, Geneva Currier, Bill Ward, David Becker,
Doug Quirk and George Baitinger, leader.
