Fawn LakeJanuary 5, 1999Another gorgeous day in the Cascades! Since the snow didn’t invite skiing, four of us buckled on snowshoes and left the Crescent Lake SnoPark at 10:30 on one exhilarating outing — especially exhilarating for Dick “never-stop-eating” Hildreth and Harvey Tuckor who took the day to the edge. Breaking the quiet with the crunch, crunch of our footsteps before the sun warmed the snow, we enjoyed the gently ascending trail through the trees; the snow softened. At Fawn Lake we lunched with Lakeview Mountain and a few of her ridge buddies across the way. Refueled, we headed on towards Stag Lake. After an hour, Sharon Ritchie and trip leader Melody Clarkson decided snowshoeing along a steep slope wasn’t nearly as much fun as stretching out and vegging. Dick and Harvey were given a drop-dead turn around time — and, of course, they had just one more rise to go over to reach Stag Lake when they had to turn around. Then it was crunch, crunch, crunch back to the car without a break, but not without reward: Dick served hors d’oeuvres on the ride home. |
