Tahkenitch Dunes Loop
October 30, 1999
You can experience some of the best weather for beach hiking late in the fall.
A sunny day with 65 degrees and no wind greeted us when we reached the beach
after passing through the forest and crossing the dunes.
To fully absorb what could be the last perfect beach day of the year, those present
had the option of hiking an additional two miles by walking north to an outlet.
Lunch time found us on the beach in shirt sleeves, no wind.
Crossing back over the dunes took us over a new section of trail
that included a low wooden walkway. Threemile Lake was the playground of an otter that performed while we again sat
in the sun and enjoyed each other’s company.
Leaving Tahkenitch Campground, Genie spied a bald eagle flying over the lake.
We stopped at AlphaBits for some repast and more pleasant conversation with our
most congenial group of hikers that included Genie Currier, Yuan Hopkins, Walt Jacobson,
Teresita Ladd, Helen Liguori, Patrick Powers, Nola Shurtleff, Michelle Tambellini,
Bill Ward, Sheila Ward, Mel Zavodsky and Sylvia Harvey (leader).
