October 2, 1999
Nine hikers in two cars left Eugene at 8:30 a.m. to drive out to the coast where we met with our
tenth member at the trailhead.
Warm temperatures and blue skies made for an excellent day.
Some work has been done on the trail over the summer with new bridges and built-up paths in some
of the dune area that is prone to be very wet in winter.
We ate a leisurely lunch on the beach and climbed up and down to Threemile Lake where some hikers
checked out the water temperature.
We came back to the trailhead via the second-growth forest and were on our way by 3:00 p.m.
Of course there was the necessary stop for pie and other goodies at A1phaBits in Mapleton before
coming back to Eugene.
Hikers included Obsidians Diane Jeffcott, Nola Shurtleff, Wendy Clarke, Elliot Aronin, Bennett Rauch
and non-members Diane Palmari, Jack Schia, Peter Graham and Martha Skjonsby.
Leader was Sheila Ward.
