August 22, 1999
This hike was an ongoing kaleidoscope of sights.
Our 12 committed hikers arrived at the Salt Creek Falls kiosk around 10:00 a.m.
After a few minutes of viewing the falls we hit the trail for Vivian Lake.
Shortly thereafter we passed by Too Much Bear Lake, and in another 20 minutes were at spectacular
Diamond Creek Falls.
The weather was perfect. In another 20 minutes we entered the Diamond Peak Wilderness.
A few mosquitoes, but not a real problem.
Twenty minutes later we were at Fall Creek Falls, another spectacular sight.
We then walked within sight and sound of rushing Fall Creek to Vivian Lake.
There were patches of unmelted snow in the woods nearby.
The lake covers 24 acres and is 15-ft. deep.
After a leisurely lunch and some lounging we returned to Salt Creek Falls.
Our band of congenial, capable hikers consisted of Carol Castleberry, Allan Coons, Catherine Corotis,
Max Brown, Benton Elliott, Connie Hanson, Virginia Prouty, Sharon Ritchie, Joe Scheibe, Wayne Westling,
Gloria Youngbauer and leader Marc Hansen.
