Bohemia MountainJuly 14, 1999Fourteen hikers met at the S.E.H.S. parking lot at 9:15 a.m. and carpooled (in four vehicles) about 65 miles to the Bohemia Mountain trailhead. The drive took us down I-5 to the Cottage Grove exit, then east to Dorena Reservoir, through Culp Creek and up the Brice Creek Canyon. A turn onto a gravel road took us to the Bohemia Saddle at the base of Fairview Peak and Bohemia Mountain. The hike up Bohemia Mountain was only .8 miles, climbing rather steeply, gaining 700 ft. to the summit. The wildflower display was good, although it was still early spring and many plants had not yet bloomed. We did not get all the way to the peak summit (just about 6000 ft.) because the last bit of the trail was covered with pretty good snowdrifts. We ate lunch on a rock outcrop, and enjoyed good views of Mts. Hood, Jefferson, Washington, Three Sisters, Broken Top and Diamond Peak. Following our leisurely hike, we returned to the cars and returned back to the parking lot at about 4:15 p.m. Hikers were Jim & Melody Clarkson, Sig Otto, Mary Ann Hastings, Helen Liguori, Maggie Gontrum, Brian Wanty, Ruth Romoser, Jane Rodd-Marks, Walt Jacobsen, Diana Palmeri, Carol Petty, Karen Fitz and trip leader Herm Fitz. |
