McKenzie River TrailMay 27, 1999A sunny, mild day, just right for hiking and 13 folk in three cars set out for Sahallie Falls parking lot. As expected, the falls — and river — were near torrential due to the heavy snow and rain. Not expected was the considerable amount of snow on the trail as we headed upriver along the Waterfall Trail. Small snow banks required a bit of scrambling and the trail was occasionally hard to follow. But the woods were lush and the water nearly always in sight. The snow lessened after we looped around and headed downstream. We lunched across from Koosah Falls and then circled around Carmen Reservoir before finishing by going upstream — on the other side of the river — back to Sahalie. Enjoying the sun and water were nonmembers Benette Rauch, Nancy Robbins, Michelle Gray and Daniel Wise, and Obsidians Ann Lichtenstein, Sheila Ward, Nola Shurtleff, Carol Armstrong, Barbara Schumaker, Susan Baxter, George & Andy Jobanek and leader Ed Lichtenstein. |
