Weyerhaeuser Logging RoadApril 1, 1999I like to share this road hike with Obsidians because it is such a nice place for walking, jogging or biking in the country, but close to our urban area. The black-top logging road is not used by log trucks now and is gated against other vehicles. We ten “April Fools” enjoyed some jokes and picked up three bags of trash to celebrate the day. Barb was our Litter Queen, acknowledging her superior effort. Power bars at the pioneer cemetery gave us energy to complete seven miles of easy walking, ending at Velma & Mike’s home. There we had good appetites for our sack lunches, supplemented by the Easter eggs and delicious slugs served up by the hosts. Then a quick shuttle back to the LTD parking lot at 57th and Main, Springfield, in time for our hikers to put in some time gardening or just taking a nap! The weather was good and I enjoyed the companionship. Thanks, everyone! Hikers were Elliot & Priscilla Aronin, Bernalla Calkins, Barb Elsen, Ellie Maliner, Bonnie Manheim, Mary Millman, Dixie Minkler, Nola Shurtleff and Velma Shirk, leader. |
