Newberry Crater-Paulina Lake
February 8, 1998
We left Eugene in a misty rain and had a relatively relaxing three-hour ride to Central Oregon
due to almost bare pavement.
Many thanks to non-members Bob Vogel and Tom Holser for offering to drive.
At the trailhead the first quarter mile was quite icy but after gaining a little elevation
the four-inch topping of new snow was great!
We were treated to alternating sun and clouds and in general a very good day.
After viewing the partially frozen waterfalls we had our lunch at a shelter outside the Lodge
and then proceeded to the Lodge where the trip leaders had pre-arranged a treat of hot fresh
baked homemade cobbler for the whole gang.
A nice run back down the mountain to the snow park with just a couple of bruises.
All participants (Janet Hall, Tom Holser, Carol Houde, Ed Lichtenstein, Van Likes, Chuck Mitchell,
Bob Moffitt, Marriner Orum, Clare Tucker, Bob Vogel, Craig Weiderman and Renata Welker)
arrived back in Eugene, in one piece, by 6:30. Leaders - Bea Fontana & Gene Thaxton.
