Gold LakeJanuary 10, 1998Eleven participants, riding in three cars, left the SEHS parking lot at 8:00 am. Our drive out Hwy. 58 was cloudy and raining all the way to the Gold Lake SnoPark at Willamette Pass. After signing in at the Nordic Ski Patrol Base we crossed the highway and began to ski north on the snow-covered Gold Lake Road. The air temperature was about 34° F. so there was a mix of rain and snow coming down; this made for a wet day, but trail conditions were good. By noon we were all in the Gold Lake Shelter staying dry while we had lunch. Two members of the group started back up the road after lunch, and the others skied around the back side of the lake to try and see the bog located there. After this group returned to the shelter we split into two groups, one skiing back up the road and the other via the Marilyn Lakes Loop. By 3:00 pm we were all back at the Nordic Base and on our way home to Eugene. Skiers were: Ruth Simon, Roger Galka, Randi Brox, Elizabeth Gates, Ruth Kanagy, Anne McLucas, Kris Kennedy, Genie Currier, Helen Liguori, Lucy Rayle and George Baitinger, leader. |
