The hike was lengthened this year to two destinations — the first atop Waldo Mountain,
the second to a beach on the north-west portion of Waldo Lake.
The waters of the lake lapped soothingly as we ate our lunches and basked in the bright sunshine.
But this tranquil scene had been preceded by a strenuous ascent of 2,000 ft.
over three miles to the top of Waldo Mountain, followed by a 2.5-mile descent to Waldo Lake,
the last mile via the Elbow Lake Trail.
We returned to the trailhead via Waldo Meadows and the Salmon Lakes Trail (Sullivan, #90).
Five women and five men formed the capable and congenial group on this 10-mile junket:
Barbara Bruns, Allan Coons, Roy Dwyer, Maggie Gontrum, Sandra Larsen, Steve Schriver,
Joe Scheibe, Susan Wolling, Terri Wood and Marc Hansen, leader.
