From the trailhead on Hwy. 242 we hiked to Hand Lake, which in late summer was almost dry.
We continued north up the Hand Lake Trail following the lava fields.
We bushwhacked up the steep north face of Scott Mountain following very old tree blazes.
At one of the small, unnamed lakes we stopped to eat lunch and admire the view.
Some of us swam in the cold water.
The sky was clear enough to see Mt, Jefferson and Mt. Hood.
We continued to the summit of Scott Mountain before descending on a seldom-used trail
on the east side of the mountain.
Enjoying the warm, late-summer weather were Susan Baker, Max Brown, Maggie Gontrum,
Dick Hildreth, David Roderick, Martha Welches and Dave Predeek (leader).
