Tahkenitch DunesJuly 28, 1998Seven hikers left Eugene on a sunny Tuesday morning to escape the heat of the Valley. After temperatures of over 90° we had blue skies and slight breezes for our hike, which was rescheduled from May (no one signed up then as we were having weeks of rain). We did a loop trip, starting at Tahkenitch Campground to the dunes and then to the beach, walking 1.5 miles down the beach for a lunch stop. After lunch we hiked to a sandy bluff for a view of Three Mile Lake. The rest of the loop was through second-growth woods to a “fern valley”, ending back at the campgrounds for a 6.4 mile loop. Everyone agreed to a snack stop in Florence at B.J.’s. We arrived back in Eugene about 4:30. A congenial group of mid-week hikers: Eliot & Prisilla Aronin, Wendy Clarke, Dixie Minkler, Bill & Margaret Prentice and Sandra Larsen (leader). |
