Cascade HeadJuly 26, 1998This was the leader’s birthday hike; her present was a wonderful day with a great group of people. Most of the group convened at SEHS and were led by Barb Elsen to meet the leader at the Otis Cafe, from which we proceeded to the Cascade Head parking lot. The day was warm, the views gorgeous, and the group compatible, though we hiked at different paces (and had some worry when two of our number did not show up at the top). We spotted some specimens of the rare checker mallow still in bloom, but the silver spotted butterfly was not yet in evidence. Although the hike officially ended at the parking lot, most of us proceeded down the coast and took in sights at the Devil’s Punch Bowl and Cape Perpetua, as well as chowder and other seafood at Mo’s in Florence before heading home. Hikers were Sandy Lear, Myhra ?, Sue Petersen, Wendy Clarke, John Agnew, Barb Elsen, Doug Wilson, Carolyn Spores, Robert Kyr and Anne Dhu McLucas, leader. |
