Quaking Aspen Swamp

Nine of us had the pleasure of accompanying world-class botanist Herm Fitz to Quaking Aspen Swamp, a fascinating wetland near Lowder Mountain. We enjoyed perfect weather and, with Herm’s help, located all kinds of rare plants and flowers. We were treated to the sight of a black bear ambling across the swamp, entirely unconcerned about us! Hikers were Blyth Carpenter, Karen Fitz, Nola Shurtleff, Anne Dhu McLucas, Bob Lemon, Maggie Gantrum, Melody Clarkson and leaders Russ Carpenter and Herm Fitz.
