Silver Creek Falls
May 3, 1998
A Register-Guard story concerning waterfalls as hike destinations produced quite a surge
of interest in Silver Creek Falls.
As a result, we were 14 strong when we headed up the valley under a questionable sky.
Good fortune smiled on us. The sky cleared and we had an ideal day for our trip.
A large volume of water in both forks of Silver Creek produced spectacular results.
Even the falls of seasonal tributaries were something to behold.
It should be noted, too, that a great deal of work has been done on trail improvement.
Small bridges, culverts and crushed rock have eliminated spots which in previous years would
have been muddy and slippery this early in the season.
As a consequence, throngs of people were on the trail.
A trail junction where in previous years we communed with chipmunks while eating lunch was
like Grand Central Station this year.
Everything went smoothly; we were all back in Eugene by 4:00 p.m.
Enjoying this outing were: Dan Bates, Luis Campos, Curt Cyrus, Rita Johnson, Jana Logan,
Dick & Lucy Rayle, Carolyn Kompanik, Dean & Lucile McKenzie, Will Ogren, Rosemarie Smith,
Janet Smyth and Vernon Barkhurst, leader.
