McKenzie River Trail
May 2, 1998
With only five hikers we piled info the leader’s station wagon and drove to
Sahalie Falls parking lot.
Mike Stahlsberg of The R-G was right — the falls were flowing strong!
We took the Waterfall Trail east, then picked up the River Trail on the other side and came
west to the south junction of the Waterfall Trail at Carmen Reservoir.
We then did the threeplus miles west — a section where the river is underground
— to Tamolitch,
where we lunched overlooking the Blue Pool (where the river comes out again).
After lunch we backtracked to Carmen Reservoir and then went up the south side of the Waterfall Trail.
The river was a raging torrent from the Reservoir to Koosah Falls, and back to Sahalie.
A great time of year for this trip, which I should have advertised as a waterfall trip.
The day was mostly sunny with light rain during the last half-hour.
Enjoying this waterfall hike were non-members Cheryl Beyer and Franca Hernandez
and Obsidians Vi Johnson, Anne Dhu McLucas and leader Ed Lichtenstein.
