Threemile LakeApril 26, 1998The first mile of our hike was through a second growth Sitka spruce stand. This brought us to the southern part of Threemile Lake. Shortly afterwards, we walked in the open dunes to the north end of the lake. On this part of the walk we saw bear tracks in the sand. Last year I saw some by the lake. After visiting the northern part of the lake we followed the posts marking a trail coming from Tahkenitch campground to the coast. There were a couple of vehicles on the beach, with a few people fishing. We ate lunch and returned to the car via the spruce forest again. Alphabits, in Mapleton, now serves a limited menu on Sundays. We stopped for pie and then headed for home. It was great to make acquaintances with Sue & Dick Schubert; I hope they become Obsidians. — J. Scott Hovis, trip leader. |
