Castle Rock

March 24, 1998

On a rainy Tuesday morning, nine Obsidian and three nonmembers met at the Amazon Park buildings parking lot to decide whether or not to make the trip to Castle Rock. One person had already decided the weather was too bad and left to return home. By the time we reached Blue River, we were out of the rain. Road conditions to the trail-head were good, as was the trail to the top of Castle Rock. Only one tree, about 8" in diameter, was across the trail, and we viewed a small portion of Cougar Reservoir. Cars on the McKenzie Highway below us were seen. Clouds to the east prevented us from viewing the mountains, but it was a very enjoyable hike by Marion Borchardt, Barbara Clark, Leona Devine, Mary Ann Hastings, Mary Jo Jenkins, Ray Jensen, Walt Jacobsen, Arthur Skach, Nola Shurtleff, Harvey Speck, Lenore McManigal and John McManigal, leader.
