Mt. WashingtonJuly 18, 1998What luck, another climb on Washington with perfect weather. Both climbers who showed up were over-qualified for the route — a leader’s dream: small party, great weather and good climbers. The climb was great fun and went flawlessly, almost. While waiting at the Notch for a descending group, rockfall came very near ending the careers of two young people. They had rappelled down first and were in the wrong place (in the gully) when others were coming down the trash above the rappel point. On Washington it is important to know where you should (and shouldn’t) be in relation to other climbers. Thankfully only a small blip in a great day. Climbers were Michael Cooper, Shawn Lockery and Ed Lovegren, leader. |
