Hackleman Old Growth Trail

July 14, 1998

This trip was designed to do several short hikes on the Upper McKenzie and South Santiam Rivers. Delta Nature Trail has been reopened, and three footbridges provide a nice walk through a nice forest. Koosah and Sahalie Falls and the trail in between them were spectacular as usual. We enjoyed lunch at Clear Lake. Then the Hackleman Loop Trail through a compact grove of several softwood species in various stages of their life cycles was very enjoyable. A visit to House Rock near the old Santiam Wagon Road completed the day in perfect weather. Experience Oregon Bus Company furnished their usual tasty pastries and coffee; driver Will Gaunt did an excellent job in all respects.

Twenty riders included — Marian Borchardt, Florence Douglas, Jeanette Forsman, Bette Hack, Kess Hottle, Dick & Phyllis Hulse, Rosella Jones, Dodie Leppmann, John & Lenore McManigal, Cleora Mersdorf, Liz Reanier, Edna Robertson, Alice Sacks, Harvey Speck, Millard Thomas, Dorothy Turnex, Paula Vehrs and leader Ray Jensen.
