Tahkenitch Dunes Trail
October 11, 1997
Fall hiking in Oregon can be a challenge, but if you go prepared it can be quite wonderful.
Driving over to the Coast on a mid-October Saturday, we had both sun and rain.
At the Tahkenitch Dunes trailhead all types of cold weather and raingear appeared.
By the time we reached the beach, the clouds, spectacular and dark with rain to the surface, parted.
We then had sunny, fairly warm weather the rest of the hike.
Dick Hildreth suggested hiking up the coast to the spot Tahkenitch Creek enters the ocean.
Wildlife hang out around such areas. Sure enough, amongst the gulls were five pelicans.
In the surf, curious harbor seals watched. The rest of the hike was also pleasant.
Enjoying fine weather, beautiful scenery and being a most congenial group were Rita Johnson,
Jun-Chin Chen, Dick Hildreth, Dick & Lucy Rayle, Sharon Ritchie, Nola Shurtleff, Cathy Tilton,
Art Skach, Sheila Ward, Margee Wright and Sylvia Harvey (leader). Art joined us at the trailhead.
