Scott Mountain (via Hand Lake)September 20, 1997It was a perfect late summer day. The sky was clear and blue. From Scott Lake we hiked to Hand Lake and then northwest along the Hand Lake Trail following the lava. On the north side of Scott Mtn. we followed slash marks on trees along the location of a trail that had been long abandoned even when I first hiked it 30 years ago. The trail becomes more difficult to follow every year and we were temporarily lost. We passed small lakes and green meadows as we bushwhacked our way up the mountain. The view was stupendous on top where we ate our lunch. Fresh snow covered all the peaks from Mt. Hood to the Three Sisters. Two of us stopped to swim in Benson Lake on the way back to the car. Enjoying this fine day on Scott Mtn. were Max Brown, Dick Hildreth, Karen Myers, Gerry Roe and leader Dave Predeek. |
