Matthieu Lakes

Ten folks drove off from the SEHS parking lot at 8:00 a.m. on a cool, sunny morning after brief introductions and information. The ground at the trailhead showed signs of heavy rainfall recently. It was exhilarating to move along the shaded trail and then reach brilliant sunshine at South Matthieu Lake. Five eager hikers zipped to the top of the nearby cinder cone. Reluctantly we all turned downhill towards North Matthieu Lake and a leisurely, sunny lunch and then completed our loop hike back to the cars and proceeded home. At the trailhead, Joe Bentsen, coming from Bend, met us and made his first hike as an Obsidian. Hikers were Val Ho, Mary Millman, Maggie Gontrum, Elliot & Priscilla Aronin, Max Brown, Wendy Clark, Kurt Cyrus and Joe, Dick & Mary Bentsen (leader).
