South Waldo LakeJune 28, 1997I was pleased that construction just east of the Hwy. 58 tunnel had halted for the weekend: no one had to wait for the pilot car. The weather was respectable — we enjoyed about two hours of sunshine. It cooled quickly and by the time we left the parking lot there was mist on the windshield. The portion of the loop we hiked is nicely maintained. The meadow just west of the shelter has a lot of standing water and some snow patches. The mosquitoes were not too bad: a slight breeze helped! We all enjoyed the historical sign put up by the Forest Service at the Klovdahl Tunnel. I would like to thank Dick & Lucy Rayle, Harold Connamacher, Ginny Saunders, Chris Steele, Dick Hildreth and Lucille Peterson for making this a great hike. J. Scott Hovis (leader). |
