May 24, 1997
On Saturday, May 24, nine of us hiked up the Trout Creek Trail to the rock knoll next to
This is 6½ miles, out and return on the same trail, with 2,300 ft. elevation gain.
All day the weather was threatening and we had a hard, brief rain two-thirds of the way up.
Along the trail we saw many iris and rhododendrons in bloom. Higher there were madrones and manzanitas.
At the top, our lunch stop, we were treated to a view of several ridges, each separated by low clouds.
The same clouds blocked the view of the Santiam Canyon floor but was still a very impressive sight.
Hikers were: Max Brown, Sharon Lindsley, Mary Ann Hastings, Kirk Lemon, Cindy Fitzgerald,
Virginia Prouty, Linda Young, Rita Johnson (who must really like this hike, having done it two weeks
earlier!) and Ben Jeffries, leader.
