Scio/Crabtree ValleyMay 18, 1997A beautiful day for a bicycle ride and five riders ready for fun. We began riding at Scio High School and headed north on Scio-Stayton Road. Just before a gigantic hill we turned right for a mellower grade on Brock Drive. We continued along a ridge with gentle rolling hills and many wild flowers along the fence rows. We could occasionally see the valley we would soon be riding through. A great two-mile downhill run took us to the valley floor where we stopped and enjoyed five covered bridges on Thomas and Crabtree Creeks. The Larwood Bridge Wayside Park was our lunch stop. The last bridge on the route is now closed to auto traffic for repairs. Our trip ended in Scio where their Lamb and Wool Fair with sheep dogs was underway. Total mileage: 48. Happy riders included Bob Devine, Gayle Berge, Barbara Bruns, Joyce Sanders and leader Norma Lockyear. |
