Beales ButteFebruary 17, 1996It was great to do this trip again after several years of insufficient snow. We lucked out on weather with easy going over Willamette Pass on bare pavement, and over Road 5825 to the railroad tracks on bare gravel. From there we skied to the butte, going counter-clockwise this time to a lunch spot near the top. Weather was cloudy and windy but dry. Rather than push our luck by taking a long route on around the butte, we re-traced our tracks back to the van before 2:00 pm. After a snack at Schad’s in Crescent Lake Junction it started to rain, and it was pouring by the time we reached Oakridge and on to Eugene. Enjoying the good snow were members Doris Allen, Helen Liguori, Ray Mikesell, Hank Plant, and non-member Verlean McCoy. Trip, leader: Wes Prouty. |
