Horse Creek Trail/Sweet Creek FallsJanuary 1, 1996Broken and downed trees plus a rising wind thwarted a hike on the Horse Creek Trail. This trail system is on a headland, Scurvy Ridge, and sustained damage from a storm that had wind gusts around 100 mph a few weeks ago. Winter hiking requires a person to have alternative plans. So our group went back to the Mapleton area. Sweet Creek Falls, 15 miles inland, was sheltered from winds and aiso had less rain. High water helped to make this raging torrent of falls even mere spectacular. Some might think that I am trying to take every Obsidian to this spot: they would be correct! Enjoying tile beauty were Margaret Malsch, Mary Millman, Sig Otto and leader Sylvia Harvey. |
