Black Crater

October 6, 1996

Twenty of us enjoyed a mild, beautiful autumn day outing to the top of this old volcanic pas, with its beautiful view of Collier Glacier (on the North Sister). The vine maple on the Old McKenzie Highway was at its orange-red peak, making even the drive spectacular. The Forest Service is to be commended for a much improved new trailhead. With so many hikers to list, I don’t want to ramble on: George Baiting, Dan Bates (official co-leader), Pat Bean, Max Brown, Kevin Clark, Todd Coleman, Roy Dwyer, Kayleen Hanna, Marc Hansen, Larry Huff, Tta Johnson, Sandra Larsen, Helen Liguori Ralph Olive, Sig Otto, David Skinner, Joanne Vinton, Heiner Walden, Rob Zahr and Bill Montgomery (leader).
