We were to go to Waldo Mountain, but fires put a stop to that!
Rather than stay home on such a radiantly sunny day, we took ourselves to a mountain on the
opposite side of Waldo Lake.
The Twins trailhead is just before the Shadow Bay turnoff from the Waldo Road, and on the east
side of the road.
The trail is a gradual but persistent uphill until the last half mile, which is steep.
The view from the top is a just reward, however.
This day, we could see the effects of the Moolack Complex fire (which had turned us away from
Waldo Mountain, though the distance between the two seemed substantial from our perch).
The Twins offers a wonderful 360-degree view of the Waldo area and peaks to the north and south.
We probably got to see more, including more of the fire’s effects, from the Twins than
we’d have gotten from our original destination.
Twins hikers were Dick Hildreth, Susan Baker, Maggie Ganstrum, Frank Fevivre, Nonna Etter,
Becky Hansen, Melinda Bruce and leader Jerry Casby.
