Cape PerpetuaAugust 25, 1996The Green Lakes Trail is a long way from Cape Perpetua, but the smoke/fire in the Bend area called for a reconsideration of our planned destination. Twelve hikers decided to go to the beach: we followed the Cooks Ridge/Gwynn Creek loop as well as side trips to the Cape Perpetua Visitor Center, to the giant spruce tree and the beach. Altogether the group walked about eight miles. The seven-mile ridge trail had old growth spruce and fir, wild flowers and enough elevation gain to make a good workout. The terrific group of hikers was: Jackie Bryson, Blyth Carpenter, Barbara Chinn, Kurt Cyrus, Rita Johnson, Gary Marx, Anne McLucas, Abby & John Pearce, Judy Sladek, David Roderick and Mary Ellen West, leader. |
