Kentucky FallsJune 29, 1996As luck would have it, our trip was scheduled to meet in the SEHS parking lot at exactly the same time as the auditions for the Prefontaine movie. We didn’t have too much trouble finding each other, although there were four no-shows. Perhaps they were lured away by the bright lights of Hollywood. The remaining eight people, however, were treated to a glorious day for hiking at Kentucky Falls, 50 miles south-west of Eugene. The roadsides were filled with multi-colored foxgloves and other wild flowers, and the falls themselves were bathed in sunlight — a real photo opportunity. On our return we had sweeping views of the hills and valleys to the east and, as a bonus, clear views of the Three Sisters and Diamond Peak. Non-member hikers were Jean & Dick Smith, Lucille Peterson, Nola Shurtleff and Jim Fritz. Obsidian hikers were Susan Baker, Richard Heinzkill and Joanne Ledet, leader. |
