Crabtree ValleyJune 9, 1996Nine bicycles and riders headed north to Scio by car. Bicycles unloaded and assembled by 10 am, and we were off following a map provided by the City of Scio. Heading north we ascended to a high ridge on lightly traveled roads through rolling fields and fence rows filled with wild flowers. Our climb was rewarded by a great long downhill run into the Thomas Creek and Crabtree Creek Valley. During the next 30-plus miles of nearly flat riding we stopped and enjoyed five covered bridges. Lunch at Mile 26 was at Larwood Bridge Wayside. There remains some damage to the stream banks and some boards are broken on the undersides of the bridges due to last winter’s flooding. We had one quick roadside flat repair, but all participants agreed it was otherwise a great ride! Riders included Warren Kadas and Obsidians Bob Devine, Gayle Berge, Dick & Rose Marie Moffitt, Barbara Bruns, Rick & Jan Anselmo and leader Norma Lockyear. |
