Eagles Rest TrailJune 1, 1996Twenty miles out on Hwy. 58 our two-car caravan turned up graveled Goodman Creek Road and then traveled the three-plus miles to the commodious Eagles Rest trailhead. We saw no bear(s) — (just two weeks earlier, on a scouting trip, a 300-lb. black bear had loped across the road in front of us!). With the moon full, the seas calm and the weather perfect, our congenial group of nine headed up the trail through the conifers, vine maple and rhodies heading for Ash Swale, and beyond to 3,000-ft. Eagles-Rest. All arrived by 11:00 am and got a good look at Mt. June and Lost Creek Valley. After lunch we made our way back to Eugene, arriving at about 2:30 pm. The trail was clear and dry. Participating were Max Brown, Allan Coons, Joella Ewing, Janet Hall, Mary Ann Hastings, Rita Johnson, Jo Nairn, Meg Tims and leader Marc Hansen. |
